The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has published the list of candidates and parties cleared to contest the Anambra Governorship election with the names of Professor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, missing.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was also not in the list of parties for the November 6 2021 election.
The Commission, in a statement by its National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, cited court orders for the exclusion of the PDP candidate and Soludo from the list.
Meanwhile, the commission also announced the adjustment in the date earlier scheduled for the commencement of the physical continuous voter registration due to the declaration of Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st July 2021, as public holidays by the Federal Government
”It will be recalled that on Tuesday 13th July 2021, the Commission met with Resident Electoral Commissioners and noted that the commencement of physical registration of voters scheduled for Monday 19th July 2021 might be affected by public holidays. Also facing prospect of interruption of their registration schedules are some of the online registrants who have scheduled their appointments for the completion of their registrations on dates likely to clash with the same public holidays”.
Okoye however said the physical registration of voters is now to commence on Monday 26th July 2021, while online registrants that have scheduled appointments from 19th July 2021 to 23rd July 2021 will have their appointments rescheduled.
